NMEGOLD-Nick Cave

In the front cover we see Nick Cave in a blue light standing in some sort of tunnel. The blue light is only on him and is not in the background, this sets him apart from where he is standing making him seem out of place and out of the ordinary. The place he is standing seems like a drainage tunnel this may seem like a weird choice but creates an interesting environment to stand in. He is wearing a blazer and a shirt with the buttons mostly undone, this gives off an impression that he is relaxed/laid back and that he doesn't care about looking smart and formal for a magazine. His hair is unkept and messy, this shows he didn't have a costume and makeup department do anything for him, this is who he is normally so why should he change for a magazine.

The font used is very simple and blocky, this makes it easy to read as it is a well-known magazine covering various artists so it would need a font that anyone can tread. The red and white text contrasts the blue light on Nick Cave and the darkness of the tunnel, these are exact opposites and are easy to read on the dark background. The text alternates red and white to make it easier to read, the text is also different sizes using bigger text to highlight key individuals such as Nick cave and Captain Beefheart. The text on the border is fancier as it reads "Archive collection" having it in a different font compared to everything makes it more important and that the reader can see this issue as part of a collection.

The border used is a beige colour which they use for almost all of their magazines, this personalises the layout and that if you then see another magazine with this border it's from NME gold. Beige being a very bland colour wouldn't normally stand out but because of the blue on Nick Cave and the red and white writing it does. Beige is similar to gold so it links to the name of the magazine and makes it feel more prestige and good quality.
